Exploring Semaphore, Largs Bay and other LeFevre Peninsula Beaches

Experience the charm of the LeFevre Peninsula’s coastline, stretching from the tranquil Outer Harbor to the vibrant Semaphore. Whether you're a nature lover, beach enthusiast, or a family seeking a relaxing and fun day out, this coastal stretch has something for everyone. Here, we fuse the beauty of the beaches with essential safety tips, along with an environmental touch and a taste of the local dining scene.

Semaphore Beach

Semaphore Beach is your classic Adelaide beach, complete with white sands and family-friendly shallows. It's a great spot for a day of fun and relaxation.

As you walk through the dunes, you'll find a wide sandy beach leading to the water. There's also a vast green foreshore, about two kilometres long. This is where you can have fun riding the vintage carousel, enjoying ice creams and fish and chips, cycling on the bike track, and even taking a ride on the steam train along the shoreline.

The area has historical landmarks like the Timeball Tower, one of the last working timeballs in the world, and the oldest working carousel in the southern hemisphere. You can also spot the 1920s Palais bathing pavilion, which is now the Semaphore Palais Hotel. If you're into history, you'll appreciate the historical buildings along Semaphore Road and the Esplanade.

When you're ready for a bite, Semaphore offers a mix of dining options, from fine dining to good old-fashioned fish and chips.

Largs Bay

Largs Bay is another coastal gem with a rich history. It dates to the 19th century when it was a bustling port for South Australia's colony. The Largs Pier, built in 1867, is a testament to this history, offering stunning sunsets over the Gulf of St. Vincent.

For a taste of the past, visit the Largs Pier Hotel, a historic building dating back to 1882. You'll find a historic bar and restaurant inside.

If you prefer a more relaxed beachside dining experience, the Largs Kiosk is a great spot for coffee, burgers, and ice cream. Don't forget to take in the beautiful coastal views.

The historic jetty in Largs Bay is perfect for a leisurely walk, fishing, and maybe even dolphin watching.

Beachside Dining and Beyond:

Indulge in beachside dining experiences, from the iconic Largs Pier Hotel to the quaint Largs Bay Kiosk. Semaphore offers an array of culinary options, from the art deco Palais Hotel on the beachfront to the 40+ cafes, restaurants, and takeaways on Semaphore Road, perfect for refuelling after a day at the beach. It's also a good place for boutique shopping, from handmade crafts to coastal-inspired fashion.

You could also order a picnic basket from Clever Little Picnic, collect it from their Largs Bay shopfront and have a picnic at the beach, along the foreshore, or in the shade under the jetty!
