Cycling & Walking

You can feel completely immersed in the natural beauty of Adelaide's beaches and surrounds by walking or cycling the many trails.

This extensive network of trails and paths provides a scenic and relaxing way to explore the area. Meander along the pristine coastline, wander around historic precincts or cycle from coast to city.
If you don't have your own bike, you can take advantage of free bike hire at the Port Adelaide Visitor Information Centre. You can easily plan your ride on one of the Bikedirect cycling routes using the Journey Planner and customise your route to suit your interests and riding ability.

An historic trail with easy access in is the Outer Harbor Greenway - a continuous 20km cycle and pedestrian route, from the Coast Park at Outer Harbour into the city, which encompasses not just local history but some vibrant public art.

Another popular cycling and walking path is the River Torrens Linear Park. This path follows the River Torrens from Adelaide's foothills, through Windsor Gardens, into the city and then all the way to the coast, ending your journey at West Beach. You can explore just a section of this path or make it a complete adventure over one or two days.

A much shorter excursion is the Anna Rennie Path is a 3.5km loop around the Port Adelaide Inner Harbour which is dotted with pocket parks and views of the Port River.

Then there is the Coast Park Path which is a 70km sectioned pedestrian and bicycle path along the metropolitan Adelaide coastline - starting at North Haven, it goes right through to Sellicks Beach. Benches, toilets, and picnic areas are dotted along the trail, which are sea-view pit stops, perfect for a rest and to take in the stunning scenery along the way.

Some suggested walks incorporating the Coast Park include:

  • North Haven to Semaphore: 7.2km
  • Semaphore to Grange: 7.6km
  • Grange to Henley Square: 2.0km
  • Henley Square to Glenelg: 7.5km
